Chongqing is one of the fastest growing cities of China's inlands ; from every angle in the city one sees rows of towering concrete buildings - all works in a noisy progress ; Chongqing is at the Yangze river whose level has been rising over the past few years due to the three gorges dam ; as the city's former bridge is underwater a new one is being build now

July 11, Tibet, Lhasa to Golmud

One of the first rides of the newly opened controversial Qinghai-Tibet railway line. Supporters say it will bring Tibet more prosperity as it is better connected to mainland China now ; critics claim Tibet's culture will be ruined at an even faster pace and more Chinese immigrants will move to Tibet where Tibetans already form a minority in their own country.
The railway is the highest in the world reaching altitudes above 5000 metres so oxygen masks are provided in the cabins. The huge project has been finished in an amazingly short period of time. Shortly after the opening there were reports of damage on the line mainly due to the inability of the permanently frozen soil to support the weight
